Which one would you rather have? Or better yet, what type of leader do you feel you would be? Or maybe you are already a leader. How would your team rate you?
My personal opinion, it’s difficult to find a good leader. If you find one, thank your lucky stars and don’t let him\her go! The more and more people I talk to, the more it seems this is a rarity and it’s quite unfortunate. We spend the majority of our time on this earth working for someone else. Having a boss (vs. a leader) can lead to more stress, less sleep, and overall unhappiness.
People want to feel valued, included, and respected. Being a good leader means knowing what each member of your team has to offer and developing those strengths. It seems these days that most leaders spend all of their time in meetings with other leaders making decisions about things they often don’t understand. How is one supposed to lead when they don’t have the time to learn their team. Leaders have become too focused on being right and impressing executives to focus on all of the talent before them.
A true leader will recognize their team as the most valuable asset a company has. Treat them right and the company will grow and prosper. Failure could result in employee loss and eventually the collapse of the company.
A good leader will focus on the strengths of the team and use that to develop the unity it will take to complete projects. Everything else will fall into place.
